Sweet Immortality – Douglas Clark

When I first met Doug in March 1992 at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris I was truly impressed by his energy, knowledge and humor. I accompanied him to one of his famous lectures (the “Doug Show”) and was amazed – standing ovations from the students was not what I had expected. We shared a lot of interests and even had mutual friends in the art scene.

Falling in love in the spring time in Paris seemed ridiculous, but less then a year later we shared my tiny apartment in Hamburg/Germany with our newborn son Anton. Life was turbulent, with a lot of moves – the last one in 1996 in Toronto. Life was also busy, with shows, commissions, jobs and the unknown challenge of parenthood.

Doug died in 1999 and over the years thereafter and with the help of numerous friends, students and supporters “Sweet Immortality” showed his incredible talent at the AGO in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Alberta in Edmonton and the Whyte Museum in Banff. His Estate is now represented by the Stephen Bulger Gallery.
